The Canada Files - Devlog 08




This past week, I switched from working on music to working on sprites!



And as you can see, I've finished 85% of all the sprites in the game. I just have two characters that I haven't designed yet, but all of the other ones are finished, and I've drawn their expressions.



The expressions really make the characters come to life, and they also help inform how I write them. So this week, I'll actually be coding in the expressions so that I can start refining the dialogue. It's exciting because, that's when the game starts clicking into place, and I can see the finish line, which makes me a lot more motivated. I'm hoping that implementing the sprites and backgrounds will motivate me to work on the music and UI.


Something that I've learned from doing this for a long time: playing your own game is motivating. Because I've been developing this "horizontally" (writing it first, then doing designs, then backgrounds, etc.) I've lost that motivating factor that vertical development gives you. So this will be a big boost I think! I'm already more motivated just seeing these new expressions and imagining what qUirKy and rAndOM things they'll be saying!
